Because of the financial weight that sits on our chest and keeps us awake at night, I have decided to apply for some jobs. It has exposed how much of a whiner I am, how passive and sometimes blame-shifty. If self-discovery and sin-finding were a high-paying job description, I think I'd totally get it. I have so much respect for mamas who have braved the arena.
I like my quiet stress clipping coupons or picking chicken carcass. I don't like perspiring in a phone-interview while I put the kids in front of Sound of Music (again).
The low-point was the phone interview I forgot I had. It was this little gig calling donors of the seminary's capital fund. Calliope had a bead explosion in her room. I was scuba-diving under her bed when the phone rang. I pull out my phone, answer without looking only to find it's the Development Coordinator calling because I forgot. Meanwhile, the Mulan soundtrack blares in the background and Calliope is loudly justifying her need to keep 5.9 billion beads on hand. Clara yells for bathroom assistance and the whole thing is just unbelievable. I try to explain how much I know about the school and that yes, I feel qualified to explain the intricacies of the Historical Jesus as well as the exciting things that are happening in the Systematic Theology Department.
Needless to say, I did not get this job.
It's okay, when God closes a door by humorously using your kids to humble you, another one opens. I just know it will be ok either way.
hey, look who figured out how to comment?
ReplyDeletehave you looked into the library at all? At Cabrini the grad assistants basically get paid to do their hw, they have to check out books and stuff, but basically they're doing their hw! working and going to school with kids is tough. today i called out sick to do my hw, evidence that i am not managing my life super well right now.
